Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions

By continuing to browse and use this site, and if you post any goods to us, you agree to comply with and be bound by the following terms and conditions of use. These, together with our privacy policy – which can be found {here} – govern goldcompare.co.uk’s relationship with you insofar as it concerns this website.

The following term(s): ‘goldcompare.co.uk’, ‘us’, ‘we’, refer to this website, more details of which can be found {here}. The following term(s): ‘you’ refer to the user or viewer of our website, or a customer who requests a Gold Selling Pack and sends items to us.

You must be at least 18 years of age in order to sell items to us. In addition, you must be the legal owner of all gold, jewellery and other property sold or attempted to be sold to us. You must be acting on your own behalf and not as the agent or representative of another person.

We will ask you to sign a declaration which is contained in the gold selling pack we send out to you, but even if you don’t do this, you are still bound by these criteria and by the rest of the terms and conditions.

We may request that you provide documentation or other proof that complies with the requirements in these terms and conditions.

Illegal activity

You guarantee all of the following: that no items sent to us are the result of illegal activity in the UK or any other country; that any transaction initiated by the customer will not cause us to be in violation of any anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism, or other applicable law of any country. In addition, you agree not to send any hazardous material to us.

We reserve the right to ask for proof of address and identity before processing your order.

Posting items to us

When you enter your details on our website, we will send you a free Gold Seling Pack which contains:

  • A customer information form for you to complete and sign
  • A Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope, as well as some protective packaging, for you to send the items to us
  • A copy of these Terms and Conditions.

All items must be sent in the Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope enclosed in the Gold Selling Pack we send you. If you use this envelope, your goods are automatically insured for up to £500; if you believe your goods are worth more, then you should purchase additional insurance at the Post Office before you post them. If we buy your items and if you send us proof of purchase, we will refund any extra insurance you pay. Please place your items inside the soft packaging we provide, to avoid any damage to the goods or to the envelope.

In each Gold Selling pack there is an information form – you must fill this in accurately and completely, and sign the declaration at the end. If we receive forms which are incomplete, or packages which have been opened or otherwise tampered with, we reserve the right to reject the forms and return the items to you.

We can usually identify you as the sender of any items from the unique code on the Special Delivery envelope enclosed in the Gold Selling Pack. However if you fail to enclose a customer information form, and we can’t identify you from the Special Delivery envelope, then we we will keep your items for 14 days and, if we still haven’t heard from you, we will send them for refining and donate the proceeds to a local charity.

Valuation and Offer

You understand that, in order to determine the value of the metal you send us, we will place acids on the gold, silver, platinum or other items. This usually leaves permanent staining and/or deep scratches. We also reserve the right to remove any gemstones; these do not usually have any intrinsic value but if they do, we will reflect that in our offer to you. You understand that we are not liable for any damage caused in this way or any resulting decrease in the value of the items if you choose not to accept our offer for them.

How we will contact you

We will try to make contact with you using the phone number you provide, either via a phone call or (if you provide a mobile phone number) via text. If we fail to make contact initially, we will send you an email with a number to call. When we make you an offer, it will be valid for 24 hours, given the volatility of gold and other precious metals. Once you have accepted our offer, your acceptance will be legally binding; we record all calls made and may use these recordings as evidence in any dispute. We will immediately send your gold to be melted down and discard any items of no value unless you specifically request otherwise and pay and applicable charges.

How we will pay you

After you have accepted our offer, we will arrange payment details with you. We will pay by one of the following payment methods, no later than the working day after you accept our offer

  • Bank Transfer to your UK Bank Account. We can pay straight into the account of your choice in the UK, with funds leaving our account the day after you agree to our offer. There is no charge for this service. We will send you a payment receipt confirming the money has been transferred.
  • Cheque. We can send a cheque the next working day after you have agreed to our offer – at no charge to you. We can only send cheques to the same address to which we sent the
  • Paypal. We can pay an account allocated to the email address specified in your original order.
  • Argos Vouchers. We are able to pay extra if you accept payment in Argos Vouchers. This amount will be specified in the Gold Selling Pack we send you

Returning items to you

If you choose not to accept our offer, we will return the item(s)s to you by Royal Mail Special Delivery, insured up to £500. If you would like the item(s) insured for more than £500, please let us know and you can pay for the additional insurance before we post the item. If Royal Mail is unable to deliver your item(s) and subsequently return them to us, there will be a £20 administration fee to send them out again.

If, after 7 days, we have been unable to contact you, we will return the items to the name and address provided by Royal Mail. We will retain proof of postage but will not insure the items, and will bear no liability if they are lost.

If you only send us goods that do not contain precious metals, we will notify you of that fact and there will be a £20 administration fee to return those goods.

Payment of any charges above will be due within 28 days of our our notification and, if it is not made, we will dispose of the items as we see fit (if they contain no precious metals) or purchase the items at the offer price of that day and send a cheque to the address you provided (if they contain precious metals).

You agree to indemnify us against any and all liability, claims, suits, losses, costs and legal fees caused by, arising out of, or resulting from any breach or claimed breach by you of these T’s and C’s, including claims brought by third parties.
